Tools for Keeping Up with Journals

IngentaConnect Home

This link takes you to the ingenta website where you can create a free account and register to be notified by email of the table of contents of a vast selection of journals when their new issues are published.

If you can't find the journal you are searching for, try the similar service of Sage Publications.

If you still can't find a particular journal, go to the journal's webpage and you can most likely sign up for a table of contents alert from it directly.

Any other ways that people would recommend?

Help for Putting Together Your CV

Career Center - PhDs - CV - Overview

We all need to make sure to keep our CV's up to date on the ppol website at http://www.uncc.edu/ppol/students.htm.

If you are at all like me, you may not know exactly what is on a cv, so I've included a helpful link above from Berkeley's Graduate School. Their information is especially designed for Ph.D. students looking to make a few published articles go a long way. Many of you will have your own resources, and you are encouraged to post those that you find especially helpful.

You can also model your cv on some of the ones already posted by the more diligent of us.

A quick survey indicates that we need CV's for the following folks:

Jonathan
Thomas
Huiping
Stephany D.
Jiang
Dustin
Stephanie S.
John
Stephanie P.
Ami
Wendy
Andy
Martha
Marina
Lilly
Norman
Bob
Connie
Larry

If you are not pictured on the website yet, and want to be, you can submit your own digital picture or I'll be happy to take one of you at our lunch on Thurs. Jan. 12 (see the relevant posting).

Send either your picture or your cv to our brilliant webmaster, Olga Smirnova. (She's taking comp exams so give her some time to respond.)

Free Personalized Funding Resource

Community of Science (COS) - Funding resource, expertise database and abstract management system

UNC Charlotte is a member of the Community of Science network and that allows us to use its extensive database of fellowship and dissertation funding. By clicking on the link above, and then clicking on COS Profile, you can create a profile of information--much of it straight from your cv--and tailor customized weekly searches for funding in your area. The site is a great way to keep track of your cv-type accomplishments. It allows you to direct people directly to a site that features all of your cv information as well as a way to create a print cv out of the data you've given it.
