Research Resources for Public Policy Think Tanks

For those working on the Public Policy Seminar assignment for this week, you can find financial data on your think tank at http://www.guidestar.org. You have to create a user account (hassle-free) and then you can see information about your think tank. There's useful financial data in the section for IRS Docs. You're looking for the 990 forms in which they disclose their revenue, expenditures, salaries, etc to the IRS each year. Might be of some help.

Also, a friend of mine, has just published a book on the influence of think tanks on public policy. He's constructed several models (complete with r-squareds) for assessing the ideological bent of the think tanks, their visibility and their influence on policy. I've checked the book out of the library, and would be happy to lend it to anyone who's interested.
